Mindful movement

Gentle movement can make it easier to settle. These short routines prepare the body for stillness, with no special flexibility required.

A five-minute gentle sequence

Move slowly and breathe normally. The aim is to arrive in your body, not to stretch as far as you can.

Listen to your body. Skip anything that hurts. If you have an injury, a health condition or are pregnant, check with a qualified professional before starting a new movement practice.

Walking meditation

When sitting still feels like too much

Walk slowly for five minutes, indoors or outside. Feel the heel, the sole and the toes as each foot meets the ground. When your mind wanders, return to the next step.

Walking practice is a good option on restless days, and it counts just as much as sitting.
